FIRE SAFETY:

Make sure you are familiar with the layout of the building.   We suggest doing practice runs to ensure you know the quickest route to the front door and you might like to practice unlocking the door with your eyes shut!

Check to make sure you can locate the fire blanket - it is kept in the kitchen, in the top cupboard beside the oven.  Read the instructions so you know how to use it in case of a small fire.  Do not remove it from its casing unless there is a fire.  The external door has two quick release knobs.  Make sure you know how to use them.

There is good street lighting which will enable you to find your way out of the building should the electrics fail.

If the Fire alarm sounds and the source of the fire is too large to tackle safely leave the building via the front door.  There are two quick release knobs, turn them and exit.

If possible and it is safe to do so close all windows. Close the front door once everyone is outside.

Do not stop to collect personal possessions.

When you are in a safe place call the fire brigade by dialling emergency services 999 and ask for fire.  Then call us 01423875338

Wait for the fire brigade.  Do not re-enter the building until they say it is safe to do so.

Please note smoking or vaping, burning toast or frying food and sometimes water vapour can set off the alarm - if this occurs put the burnt food, toast into the kitchen sink and douse with water.  If fat or oil is burning and it is safe to do so, use the fire blanket located in the top cupboard beside the oven. Do not use water on a fire where oil or fat has been used.   Make sure the fire is fully extinguished.  Open the front door and all windows and the alarm will stop automatically.  Do not call the fire brigade in these circumstances.
