Things to do in Harrogate

September 27, 2023

Last Month we enjoyed two open air productions put on by the Chapter House Theatre Company.

Knaresborough: Sense and Sensibility

There is nothing like a romantic tale full of twists and turns and eventually everything working out. If only things could be like that in real life!

This was a faithful adaptation of Jane Austen's novel and if like me you enjoyed the 1995 film adaptation staring Emma Thompson and Kate Winslet not to mention a young Hugh Grant then you would have enjoyed this rendition.

It was fun to see the audience fully participating as cast members sold programmes.

The following day we headed for Ripon (see blog on Ripon) and stayed for:

The Importance of being Earnest hosted in the beautiful Spa Gardens.  The crew recognised us from Knaresborough - a nice touch.  Again it was a very good crowd who assembled on a balmy summer evening with, picnics and some rather good booze, all the pre requisites for a delightful evenings entertainment. The performers did not disappoint. They delivered a truly witty performance and our Polish guests were captivated by the play as they watched the nuances between rivals and the misunderstandings caused by impersonations and the final revelations putting all to right. What’s not to love about Oscar Wilde as he makes us run the gauntlet,  of emotion whilst enjoying his wit.

All in all two wonderful evenings of entertainment.  Just goes to show there is always something going on North Yorkshire.

Come and see for yourself. Book your stay with us today!
