New artist joins Artists' Cottages

JOT’s Gallery

Recently our wonderful manager of Artists Cottages had the opportunity of meeting environmental artist JOT, who has opened his own Art Gallery in Pateley Bridge.  The gallery features several of this collages, all of which portray nature and are made from recycled materials.

At just 21 years of age JOT is already making a name for himself. He has met former Prime Minster Boris Johnson and is in the running for being commissioned for King Charles III portrait.

He is a Tree Council Force for Nature Ambassador as well as being the Artist in Residence for Whitewoods Wellbeing.

JOT specialises in collages. What he loves is to take a photograph then enhance it using discarded scratch cards, magazines, plastic and even fabric.

All of his canvases have been given to him second hand. However, he is not without ingenuity, he also uses discarded iPhones as frames and canvases.

Everything he uses from his paintbrushes to his materials have been  researched to ensure they match his ethics.

What Inspires Him?

Property of JOT 2023

JOT takes his inspiration from the natural world. Trees and birds have become frequent motifs for his artwork.

Every collage is made up of recycled materials.  Charites, carpet manufactures, fabric manufacturers  and supermarkets have all been very generous in donating their rubbish which otherwise would have been sent to landfill.

As a COP26 One Step Greener Ambassador, JOT is involved in teaching school children about environmental conservation, something which he is deeply passionate about.

What Makes JOT truly stand out is that he  genuinely believes in what he is doing and stands by his convictions. He He will stay true to his ethics no matter what.

Workshops

JOT has recently started giving workshops for small groups of at least 2. We attended one last Saturday and it was brilliant. Each of us selected a photograph on which to create our own collage. It as fascinating to see each persons different interpretation.

James will be offering workshops at Artists' Cottages for our guests. Due to his commitments he will only be available on Tuesday afternoons.  You will need to contact James directly to organise this.
