Gardens to visit in and Around Harrogate
April 11, 2025Calling all nature lovers and intrepid adventures! There are so many wonderful gardens and nature parks to explore in and around Harrogate. Here is a list of some of our favourites.
Brimham Rocks
Brigham Rocks is what remains of ice age glaciers. These use structures are a wonderful place to explore, with serval short trails leading the tea rooms and a rather nice book shop. The views across the moors are stunning and if you are coming to Harrogate with teenagers, Brigham Rocks is an absolute must.
Located towards Ripon, the best way to get there is by car or taxi.

Bridestone's, Crosscliff and Blakey Topping
Located in The North Yorkshire Moors Nature Reserve, this collection of rock formations is another example of the last ice age. Great for those who love exploring trails and woods.
Fountains Abbey and Studley Royal
One of our personal favourite places to visit. Perfect for both short and medium walks. You can explore the remains of fountains abbey or take the lake side walk through the gardens at Study Royal, culminating at the cafe overlooking the lake.
Located on the way to ripon.
Dogs: Yes, but must be kept on a lead.
RHS Harlow Carr
Do you enjoy beautiful gardens? Then you will love RHS Harlow Carr. There are number of events run throughout the year. The Christmas Illuminations is a particular favourite. If you fancy a sit down, Harrlow Carr has its own Betty's Tea rooms, located at the entrance and towards the centre of the gardens as well.
This is the perfect day out for families as there is so much for children to explore, from the Dragon to the adventure playground. Not to mention the Hideout where a number of beautiful wild birds can be spotted, but you have to be really quiet.

Valley Gardens
No visit to Harrogate would be complete without a walk around the Valley Gardens. Located in the centre of Harrogate opposite the Pump Room museum. This is the perfect place to get a bit of fresh air. There is a crazy golf course, a skate park and tennis courts. Not to mention a play ground and woods to explore.
If you fancy a leisurely walk, the main path will take you through the Valley Gardens, across the road and eventually to RHS Harlow Carr Gardens. About 1hour and 30mins to complete.
