Who are Artists’ Cottages?

We are a family business established in 2017 with the intention of bringing you the best experience of self catering in 19th Century cottages. Each interior has been especially designed by Marie-Therese in conjunction with her daughter Joanna to give you the 21st century luxuries you expect!

Because we are a family business our priority is our guests’ welfare.  We aim to give you the sense of a personalised service from your first contact with us.  We want you to feel at home.  To get your stay off to the best possible start we make a point of personally welcoming you.  We can ensure you arrive to a warm home in those colder months and that you know how to regulate the heating so it is just right for you. We can also point out local points of interest and give you directions.  We are on hand throughout your stay to ensure your comfort.

Artists’ Cottages have 4 properties in close proximity to each other located in High Harrogate- the original part of Harrogate, just a short walk from the Harrogate Convention Centre, Harrogate Station, Turkish Baths and Valley Gardens.  On the doorstep is Kings Road with its local shops and  bars, a local Co-Op, a Local Sainsbury's and Asda.  Parking at the cottages is free, unrestricted and road side.

Artists’ Loft is located on the South Side of Harrogate, a short bus ride on 36 Bus or a 20 minutes walk via The Stray (open green parkland area surrounding the town centre). Artists’ Loft is a 3 minutes walk from Hornbeam Park Business Park and train station,  across the road from a large M&S Simply Food, around the corner from a local Co-Op and Local Sainsburys.  The Wild Plum and several eateries are all within a few minutes walk.  Parking is roadside, free and unrestricted.

The cottages have been individually designed for both the business and holiday traveller in mind.  There are desks, hairdryers, proper wardrobes, chests of drawers and of course excellent unrestricted secure WIFI.  After a tiring day what could be better than great beds and comfortable sofas for you to sink into and a log fire to relax you!

Curl up in front of the log burning fire, enjoy a record, or listen to your own music through the Bluetooth enabled speakers. Enjoy our SMART TVs or  discover the delights of a novel, play a board game ….the choice is yours.

Cook your favourite meals in one of our fabulous kitchens, Miele ovens, Neff induction hobs, (ceramic hob and fan assisted oven at Artists’ Loft), great stainless steel pots and pans, Le Creuset casserole and everything else you require.  Or you can choose from one of the over 250 great restaurants- many deliver to your door.  We also work with an independent chef- she is much in demand so booking is essential.

There are just so many ways you can enjoy your stay at Artists’ Cottages.  Each cottage acts as a mini art gallery, displaying works by local artists’ which are available for you to purchase without paying commission - you  pay the artist. Their details are in the properties and on the webpage dedicated to them.

We leave a tea tray ready for your arrival,  so no searching for tea cups, teapots or biscuits!  We leave a good supply of Taylors Yorkshire Tea, fresh ground coffee, some coffee capsules for the Nespresso machine, so all you do is pop on the kettle, find the fresh milk which we put into the fridge - sit back and relax…chill.

Harrogate is known as the Gateway to the Dales. Harrogate is famous for its water and has more mineral water springs than any other place on planet earth! They are located all over town.  The famous Turkish Baths- for which you do have to book- offer spa treatments as well as the traditional Turkish bath. The building‘s interior is covered with wonderful brilliantly coloured mosaics.

To reach Harrogate there are regular direct fast trains from London Kings Cross.  There are also links to the rest of the country and Scotland via York or Leeds.  Both York and Leeds are well served by a regular train service serving all of Harrogate’s train stations.

We recently discovered Treasure Trails, a fun way to explore the area and uncover some hidden gems. We want to share this experience with you. So you will find them when you come to Artists’ Cottages.
You may require walking boots, warm layers and waterproof clothing depending on weather conditions and the choice of trail.  We hope you enjoy these adventures as much as we have!

To explore the Dales we recommend a car though it is possible to reach Ripley on foot or by 36 bus, which will also take you to the historic tiny city of Ripon. The walk to Ripley Castle starts near to our cottages in High Harrogate. The walk runs along the old railway track and is much loved by locals, cyclists, and visitors alike.  Very popular during school holidays and at weekends.

James Owen Thomas, our newest artist in residence, is offering Tuesday art classes for guests whose stay includes a Tuesday night, this is subject to his availability.    To book a class and to contact him directly, see our Resident Artists’ Page.

If you want to know more about what Harrogate has to offer see our Blog pages.  We publish new ideas all the time aimed at people with different interests and different age groups.

Whatever your reason for visiting Harrogate, we look forward to welcoming you and helping you to make the best of your stay.

Marie-Therese and the Team
